Garrett Ace 150 Review & Guide:

The video above from Garrett is a great introduction to the machine and will give you a feel for how the detector works. The Garrett Ace 150 Metal Detector is popular because while it is a beginner machine it offers an LCD screen, easily programmable discrimination (determined by the mode selected), and one touch sensitivity adjustment. Using Garrett Ace 150 Metal Detector is simple, press the power button, press the sensitivity button to the desired level (note the level on the LCD screen), and choose the proper discrimination mode by pressing the mode button. I personally don’t think there is a machine that is easier to operate while still getting great depth. What sets the Garrett Ace 150 Metal Detector apart is the “coin depth indicator” and the “target ID legend” on the LCD screen. The coin depth indicator tells you how to deep the object is (2, 4, or 6+ inches) and the target ID legend attempts to tell you what the item is. This can be really helpful in determining what the item is before you dig it up! Garrett Ace 250 Metal Detector Review & Guide:

As you can see above, the Garrett Ace 250 Metal Detector is an Ace 150 on steroids! Now of course this comes at an increased cost. I will let you determine whether or not you see the value in the enhanced features but here is some food for thought. The ability to customize a mode is extremely helpful. As you become more comfortable with your machine having the ability to set the controls to how you like is a real time saver and is something you will find on much more expensive models. Having a pin point button is again going to be a real time saver. Digging up targets as fast as possible will let you cover more ground. Pinpointing with the Garrett Ace 250 Metal Detector: Pinpointing with any metal detector takes practice. Your best bet is to set up a test garden so you know where the target is underground so you become more familiar with the pinpointing process.

Garrett Ace 250 Tips:

Here are some tips on how to use the Garrett Ace 250 Metal Detector to its fullest potential.
1. If you are still getting a hang of the Garrett Ace 250 keep the sensitivity down. While having a high sensitivity increases the depth, it also increases false signals. Ideally, start with sensitivity at four bars.
2. Wrapping the coil cable near the actual coil will cause falsing. Use electrical tape or Velcro straps to run the coil cable up the lower rod without spiraling.
3. If Depth is important set the mode to Relic or All Metal Mode. This will not provide discrimination but you will be running the Garrett Ace 250 at maximum depth.
4. Targets that bounce all over the target ID spectrum are most likely trash. However, if the target creeps into coin occasionally, it could be a solid deep target.
5. If you acquire a target that is giving a weak signal swing the coil over the target with increase sweep speed. Doing this will actually help with the target ID.

Where to Metal Detect With the Garrett Ace 150 & 250?

Research and planning is an essential part of metal detecting. What type of area do you live in? Do some research and find out the history to determine what kind of items can be found. Additionally, if it is fresh drops you are after, check local playgrounds or the beach as provided in much further detail below.

Playground PictureThe playground sand (swings/slides are a great spot) can be a great spot to test your metal detector. Additionally, there is the possibility of recently lost jewelry and coins. When you decide to start digging in the grass I recommend you research proper digging technique so you don’t leave any obvious evidence that you have dug up the area. Look for areas where people are active such as sports, picnic spots under trees, and where spectators like to sit and watch. You never know what you will find! Click here for more beginner metal detecting location ideas.

beach The beach can be a treasure trove. Why is that? Because the beaches are constantly being replenished with fresh drops and sand moved by the weather can unearth old relics. Head out to the beach after tourists have spent the day and see what has been left behind! Wake up early in the morning during a low tide to see what lies beneath the sand. That’s the great thing about metal detecting at the beach, you never know what you may find! Be sure to check out my webpage detailing my Beach Metal Detecting Tips.
